Super Multi-Drive Recorder
Benefit: DVD-RAM is a high-capacity, high-performance optical disk that allows data to be read, written, and erased more than 100,000 times. It is designed to work exactly like a floppy disk, allowing users to copy and delete files from it and use it to run programs. DVD-R discs are write-once media that are currently compatible with most DVD-Video players sold today. The D-R1 also offers additional flexibility with rewritable DVD-RW media used in some personal computer drives. Built-in DVD-R capability offers compatibility with virtually all DVD-Video players. Record up to 8 hours of programming using a double-sided 9.4GB DVD-RAM disc.
Digital Cinema Progressive
Benefit: Provides smoother, clearer picture from discs encoded at 24 frames per second. Especially useful for highly detailed or fast-moving images.

Create Custom Play Lists
Benefit: The D-R1 allows the user to generate and save custom playlists using any titles and/chapters. Each compilation of desired footage can be separately titled and edited (for removal of commercials or other unwanted sections) and then seamlessly played back for review.

Convenience
EAM (Enhanced Audio Mode)
Benefit: This feature includes three modes: NORMAL (off mode), 3-D (virtual surround sound enhancement from multichannel content), and DIALOGUE Expander (which enhances center channel [dialogue] frequencies during playback of multichannel content). Benefit of DIALOGUE: Great for"late night" listening when volume levels are low but dialogue intelligibility is of concern.
Time Slip Recording/Playback
Definition: This feature allows the user to begin watching a recording that is already in progress. A Time Slip feature lets you 'pause' a live recording and then return to it later. During playback of both modes, a bar graph can be displayed on-screen depicting the 'progress' or location of the playback signal in relation to the real time recorded signal.
Auto Title/Chapter/Thumbnail Creation
Benefit: Recorded content remains easy to find with the help of a menu that will be automatically created when you record. It displays the date and channel you recorded, along with a thumbnail of your recording by capturing the first video frame of the recording. The date and channel can be change to any 64-character title and the thumbnails to any image within the recording. Chapters within the recording can also be created by either predetermined intervals, or by the user selecting specific points within the recording. These chapters can also be named and assigned a specific thumbnail from any video frame within the chapter.

Jackpacks
ColorStream® Component Video Output
Benefit: Offers a more than 200% improvement in color compared to an S-Video output jack. These outputs allow the highest quality video signal to be sent from the DVD player to a component video equipped TV. When this connection is utilized, typical NTSC artifacts
Front Panel A/V & IEEE1394DV Inputs
Benefit: There are composite audio & video inputs, as well as RCA L/R inputs on the front panel of the unit for easy camcorder dubbing. Additionally, an IEEE1394 'Firewire' jack is also available on the front panel for interfacing compatible digital video camcorders. Provides automatic recognition of the device and on-screen menu controls to easily direct the "downloading" process with the recorder’s remote control.
Coaxial and Optical TosLink® Digital Audio Output
Benefit: Sends the audio signal to an audio/video receiver in its digital form allowing access to the Dolby Digital® /DTS® track encoded on the DVD disc.
